| School Climate Team
The
school climate team was charged with taking tasks from the community and
categorizing them into a manageable plan. The team, consisting of parents,
community members, teachers, and administrators, determined four focus
areas: safety, community friendliness, diversity and class size.
Safety:
To ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children enrolled in
WSFCS.
- Evaluate
yearly school safety and make recommendations to the board based on
results
- Consider
policy changes to strengthen bullying and discrimination
- Create
public awareness of bullying and discrimination through media partnerships
Diversity:
To promote diversity through education and training for students, faculty
and staff.
- Encourage
school system to regularly monitor the effectiveness of current diversity
programs
-
Implement Mix It Up, a civic engagement process, in all high schools
to encourage students to actively address and break down social boundaries
Community
Friendliness: To ensure all schools are friendly, open and accommodating
to parents and the community.
- Evaluate
yearly parent survey findings and make recommendations based on the
results
- Evaluate
yearly teacher surveys distributed by Forsyth County Association of
Educators for problem areas
- Partner
with other organizations to support schools
Class
Size: To establish a learning environment where all students and teachers
feel empowered and able to learn.
- Partner
with Teacher Action Team and other organizations to build public support
and will to place priority on reducing class size
